This project is a two-storey Health and Wellness Centre for Seneca College in Toronto, Ontario. The hybrid structure combines mass timber (CLT and GLT), steel, and concrete, strategically integrated across different areas of the building. Designed to achieve zero-carbon certification, the facility incorporates high-performance rainwater harvesting, solar energy, geothermal systems, renewable building materials, and green roofing.
The design draws inspiration from the Indigenous medicine wheel and drum circle, symbols of balance, equality, wholeness, and connection. At the heart of the complex lies a landscaped outdoor gathering space with a fire pit, serving as a central hub for students and employees to nurture physical, mental, emotional, and spiritual well-being.
The façade harmonizes natural and cultural motifs, echoing the drum circle and traditional weaving patterns. Key elements include chevron-shaped standing-seam metal cladding on the curved roof, fiber cement panels on the outer ring, and ACM cladding on the inner ring and parapet.
